William Howard Alderton


Colington- William Howard Alderton died Saturday January 16, 2010 at his residence after a valiant battle with cancer. Bill was born December 31, 1931 in Cumberland, Maryland. He was the son of the late William and Georgia Alderton.

Bill served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Bill spent 21 years employed with the CSX Railroad Company as a bridge and structure worker. Following his retirement, Bill and his wife relocated to the Outer Banks in 1993 and the two resided in Kill Devil Hills. Bill cherished his time on the beach and especially enjoyed his dogs and his fishing outings.

Surviving Bill Alderton is his wife Mary Alderton of the Colington residence; one son, John Patrick Alderton and wife Gina of Cumberland; two daughters, Katherine Alderton of Jarvisburg, and Teresa Alderton of Hagerstown, Maryland; two step-daughters, Connie and Lisa; two step-sons, Duane and John; one sister, Roberta Clausen of Cumberland; one brother, Richard Alderton of Cumberland; and many extended family members and friends.

In accordance with Bill’s final wishes, the memorial service will be private.  Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed by using our online registry
