Bertha Mae Burris


Bertha Mae Kindig Burris Kill Devil Hills- Bertha Mae Burris passed away at her home February 9, 2010. She was predeceased 23 years ago by husband Joseph E. Burris and her very good friend Don Perry, one year ago.

Mrs. Burris, born in Mt. Eaton, Ohio, retired to the the Outer Banks 30 years ago, and was a long time volunteer at the Pea Island National Refuge and at Hotline. She and her friend Don Perry did the "bird count" for the National Audubon Society for many years.

Bertha Burris is survived by her son Richard Burris of Kill Devil Hills; a sister Marie Vansickle of Ohio; a step granddaughter, Leah Rexford and two great-grandchildren of Vermont; and 12 nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to Hotline. Berthas ashes will be spead over the Nature Conservancy in Kill Devil Hills.
