Point Harbor- Barbara “Bobbie” Hooper Best lost her courageous battle with breast cancer on June 17, 2010. She spent her final hours in the home she cherished, surrounded by her husband and her two sons. Bobbie was born in Norfolk, VA, on August 1, 1943, the eldest daughter of Tracy C. Hooper and Mary Elizabeth “Babe” Midgett Hooper, both deceased. She is survived by her husband, Billy, of the home, son Richard (Anita) of Virginia Beach, VA, son Ward (Shannon) of Richmond, VA, and five beloved grandsons: Burke, David, Camden, Clay and Thomas. She also is survived by her sister, Tracy Johnson (Tim) of Gamer, NC, who took over the role of “big sister” during the late stages of Bobbie’s illness and her faithful pet, Bugs. Always a gifted student, Bobbie attended East Carolina College as an early-admission student for two years prior to marriage and graduated several years later Summa Cum Laude from Indiana University. She spent several years teaching elementary education in Indiana and in Burke, VA. Later, she worked in the vacation rental market on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Eagerly anticipating retirement, she was diverted from full enjoyment by her mother’s declining health and the recurrence of her own breast cancer. Bobbie enjoyed attending the sporting and academic events of her grandsons. She found a renewed love of baseball and established new friends in Florida during her final years. Valuable friends, too numerous to mention, supported her throughout her cancer treatment. A celebration of her life will be held on 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 20, at 350 Griggs Acres Drive, Point Harbor, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Community Care Clinic of Dare, 2 Juniper Trail, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements. Condolences to the family may be expressed via the online registry. |
