Zoning administrator
resigns to open business
Due to the lack of funeral home services on the
beach, making arrangements when a loved one dies
can be an inconvenience especially during a time
when a family is experiencing the emotional
loss.
Kill Devil Hills native Courtney Gallop, 38,
said she recognized this deficiency in the
community and opted to fulfill it through the
completion of her business development goals --

"Due to recent demographic trends and growth
that the area has been experiencing, there's a
very clear need for a funeral home on the beach"
she said. "This is dream of mine, something I've
been actively pursuing and researching in the
area for five years."
Gallop also said that she and her family have
received tremendous support from the community
for the new funeral home.
Gallop Funeral Services Incorporated is slated
to open April 1, offering full services
including both traditional burial and cremation.
The 2800-square-foot facility will feature a
reposing room, an arrangement room, a lobby and
offices.
"Our services will be available 24 hours a day,
seven days a week, with an in-resident staff
member, something that isn't very common
anymore," said Gallop.
Gallop received her
funeral director's license at Simmons Institute
of Funeral Service in Syracuse, NY and has since
worked at funeral homes in Maryland and New
York.
She has been employed with the town of Nags Head
as zoning administrator since 1999 where she was
an integral member in many town advancements
including the development of the new hospital,
elementary school, the Outer Banks Mall and the
water tower.
"I was completely embraced by the town of Nags
Head, and my time there has been extremely
enjoyable," she said.
Not only has Gallop been one of the longest
employed zoning administrator in the town's
history, she also has been its highest ranking
African American woman, something she is
especially proud of.
Gallop Funeral Home will be located in the
Whalebone Junction vicinity at 6917 S. Croatan
Hwy.
