Alfred Wood Kreisel

Grandy-On Saturday, July 24th, our family said goodbye to husband, father, grandfather, and best friend. Alfred Wood Kreisel died peacefully at home in the company of his family and in the care of Albemarle Hospice Services.

Al was born at home in Norfolk on October 22, 1935. His parents were Lillian Mae Wood and Marion Carl Kreisel, deceased.

He completed his apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 80, in 1957, and worked in the construction of many local commercial buildings and on nuclear power houses in many states.

In 1983, Al started his own business, Tidewater Fix-It Service, and spent fifteen successful years before retiring to the peace and quiet of Currituck Sound. In retirement, Al became an accomplished wood turner. He exhibited his pens and bowls at area craft shows and was a member of the Currituck Arts Council.

Besides his parents, Al was predeceased by his brother, Ronald, and a son, Bruce Tod Kreisel, a chosen child.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Todd Kreisel; a sister, Elsa Yoder of Ruck, VA; his sons, Steven and his wife Debra of Suffolk, VA; Christopher and his wife Lisa of Grandy, NC; and daughter, Tracy of Fayetteville, WV. Also surviving are grandchildren: Ryan and wife Carolin, Mitchell and Keeley; and step-grandson Josh Sheppard and wife Sarah, and their children Lauren and Levi of Portsmouth, VA.

His wit, wisdom and love will be with us forever. A graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, VA at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, with Pastor Ben Baum officiating. The family will receive visitors at the home of Steve and Debbie Kreisel, 2761 Burning Tree Lane, Suffolk, VA 23435.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Animal Lover’s Assistance League, 204 Airport Road, Maple, NC 27956, or a charity of choice.
