James Luther Cranfill


Wanchese - James “Big Jim” Luther Cranfill, passed away on December 25, 2017 at his home in Wanchese after an extended illness. He drove a big rig professionally for many years and enjoyed working on engines and motors. Jim served honorably in the National Guard and was a Mason at the Manteo Lodge 052.  He also loved camping. Jim was well known for always being the first to offer help to someone in need.

Big Jim Cranfill is survived by his wife Diane J. Cranfill of the Wanchese residence; two daughters Holly Spencer (Russell Firth, fiancée) and Amy Spencer (Nathan) of Grandy, North Carolina; one sister, Erma Cranfill also of Wanchese; one grandson, Wyatt Spencer and numerous other extended family members and friends. Also surviving are his grandchildren to be, “Little Buddy” Hunter and Blare of Wanchese.

The family’s plans for a memorial service are pending. Until then, Drink a Beer for Big Jim!
